"Make a Difference"Event Results Are Impressive

Renville County supporters of the Shelter House did not let a chilly December night deter them from demonstrating their desire to "make a difference" in the lives of Renville County women and children who are, or cold be, victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Early quantifiable results include $6,800 in cash donated by guests, individuals, local businesses and civic organizations who either sponsored the event, donated items for the live or silent auction, or purchased tickets for the banquet dinner and entertainment hosted by Max's Grill in Olivia. Additional cash donations have been received since December 4th as a result of the desire to help inspired by the compelling presentations on the realities of domestic violence on victims.

Future results of the impact of the event remain to be seen, but Shelter House volunteers, Board members and staff are encouraged by the good will the event seems to have generated in the Renville County community.  Evidence that many hearts were touched with the desire  to make a difference is found in the fact that cash donations have continued to come in.

"This clearly suggests to us that people who attended the event are talking about domestic violence with friends and family." said Connie Schmoll, Shelter House Executive Director. "And that is what needs to happen if the community is going to really make a difference in domestic and sexual violence. issues. We can't do much without that help" she added.
