Internet Use Warnings!!!

• Computers create records that reveal what you look at on the Internet, the emails you send, and other activities. It is not possible to delete or clear all of these "footprints" of your computer activities.
• If your abuser has access to your computer, you may be in extra danger.
• If you suspect that you are in danger, use a computer to which an abuser does not have direct or remote (hacking) access.
• It might be safer to use a computer in a public library or school, at a trusted friend's house, or at an Internet café.
• If you suspect that an abuser is monitoring your activities, -- you are probably correct. Abusive people are often controlling and want to know your every move. Click here to learn more about common sypmtoms of abuse.
• Abusers don't need to be computer programmers or have special skills to monitor email or internet search activities. Assume that records of your computer activities can and will be monitored -- and use extreme caution.
• If you think you may be monitored on your home computer, do not use your home computer for any communications or internet searches that might reveal that you are doing research about abuse, how to get emergency shelter, or how to flee to another location where you might not be found.
