Volunteers are a critical component of our success.  Each year, they provide more than 2,000 service hours to Safe Avenues.  Whether it’s helping answer the crisis line, administrative assistance, or special event help, we appreciate each and every volunteer for their time and unique talents. 


Safe Avenues offers a variety of one-time and long-term volunteer opportunities for those looking to make a difference.  The list below provides a very brief description of some of the volunteer opportunites that are available within our agency.  To apply for one of these positions, please complete the volunteer application.

Sexual Assault Victim Advocate:  Provide medical advocacy for sexual assault victims when they present at a local hospital.  This position responds at night, throughout the weekend, and on holidays.  


Camera Monitor:  Monitor cameras during visits or exchanges at Harmony Visitation Center.


Sexual Assault Case Court Monitor:   Attend court cases to monitor, record, and report developments to staff at Safe Avenues.


Crisis Line Advocate:  Answer phones, take messages, direct callers as appropriate, and provide support as needed.


Support Group Facilitator:  Lead group, offer encouragement, and listen. 


Booth Assistant:  Assist with activities at awareness events.


Childcare Associate:  Provide care for children and help with teaching the curriculum to children in the youth support group.


Driver:  Provide transportation to clients for appointments.


Administrative Receptionist:  Greet visitors and direct phone calls coming in to the Administrative Offices.


Parade Assistant:  Promote services and awareness while walking or riding in a parade.


Newsletter Reporter:  Interview and draft articles for PeaceLines, the newsletter for Safe Avenues.


Toy Sanitation:  Sanitize toys used at Harmony Visitation Center and Shelter.


Donation Program Team Leader:  Track volume of incoming donations and perform inventory.


Court Monitor:  Observe and track court proceedings and relay information to supervisor. 


Computer Coach:  Assist clients and staff in developing computer skills. 


Outdoor Explore Leader:  Assist children in exploring the great outdoors. 


Furniture Mover:  Assist in the pick-up and delivery of furniture for clients. 


Handyman's Helper:  Assist with light carpentry and painting needs to maintain agency assets. 


Kitchen Organizer:  Clean and organize kitchen cabinets and provide occasional cleaning of kitchen appliances (i.e. refrigerators and freezers)


Story Time:  Provide young clients with an entertaining story. 


Craft Time:  Assist young clients with creative projects. 



Volunteers are carefully screened and trained.  The screening process for volunteers does include a criminal background check, interview, and orientation.
